Best gifts for a baby shower: for boys or girls

What to know first

-Did they choose a theme, color or character: If the parents chose a specific color, it won't usually limit what you get for the baby, but in some cases the only things they want will be Winnie the Pooh themed and you will have to work around that or get things in a similar color such as yellow or red.

-Do they have a registry: If they have a registry then its best to use it if you can, try to stay away from things that you think everyone will get. If you want to go with something common, try to make sure it will be something they will be able to use more than one of.

-What to stay away from: Try not to get fancy, picture type clothing, moms usually prefer picking these out themselves. Dont get clothes that look scratchy, itchy or simply uncomfortable. I recommend against getting baby bottles as gifts unless the parents have told you the exact type they would like to have. The idea of special timers and diaper genies is always nice but not always realistic in the long run. And please don't try to give someone gifts such as daiper changing aprons or masks, unless as a joke for the new dad.

-Sometimes over given gifts: Blankets, we all love them but even babies dont need hundreds of them, unless they are homemade. Also, shampoo and hygeine baskets are great but not if you end up recieving more than one or two.

Helpful/ Original gift ideas:

Diapers and wipes are always helpful, you can never have too many

Clothes are great, try for 3-6 months incase the baby grows too fast

Lavender baby perfume, helps relax the mom and the baby (Amazon.com has a great selection)

Stuffed animals, not only should they be soft, but try for washable to help mom out a bunch

Baby paperwork organizer, amazing for new parents (also found on Amazon.com)

Piggy Banks, toss in a few dollar bills just to start it off

Bumbo Seats, babies love them to help sit up and see when they can't quite do it on their own yet. And great opportunity for mom or dad to have some hands free time without the babies getting into trouble.
